Membership
The membership is a membership for an indefinite period. Membership is tacitly renewed each time for one year. Registration is free of charge, but the annual contribution is only paid upon placement in a team.
Placement
For all teams, placement depends on the available space in a team. For more information, please contact the Technical Committee.
Registration is possible throughout the season via the registration form, provided that the age of 5 years or older is reached before October 1 (KNHB reference date).
Age limits
HSC Hermes applies the following age limits for seniors and juniors, divided into categories. The determining factor is the age on October 1 of the current season:
HSC Hermes uses the KNHB classification as the basis for the age limits below.
| Categories | Age (on October 1) |
|---|---|
| Seniors | 18 years or older |
| A juniors (O18) | 16 to 17 years old |
| B juniors (O16) | 14 to 15 years |
| C juniors (O14) | 12 to 13 years |
| D juniors (U12) | 10 to 11 years |
| E juniors (O10) | 8 to 9 years |
| F juniors (O8) | 6 to 7 years |
| G juniors & Hummels (O6) | Up to 6 years |
HSC Hermes bases this on the KNHB classification.
To cancel
Unless expelled by the board, membership can only be terminated by cancellation by email to the secretary or via the cancellation form in the LISA team and a notification to the team in question. Cancellation must be made before June 1 of the current association year. Not canceled before June 1 means membership for the new association year and the full contribution amount will then be charged. In the event of premature termination, there will be no refund of contributions. For exceptional situations, please contact the secretary.
To move house
Your address details are also stored in our system. We occasionally send you information by post and need your address for this. If you are moving and your address details change, we kindly request that you inform our Secretary of your old (to be replaced) and new address.
Terms of payment
Every new member undertakes to grant authorization to collect his/her contribution or pay it via a one-off invoice. If the financial obligations are not met, additional costs will be charged.
Contribution and registration fee
The contribution amounts are determined annually at the General Members' Meeting. An overview of the currently applicable amounts can be found at the bottom of this page.
Types of membership
| Kind | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Regular hockey | Participation in all training sessions and matches as part of the outdoor and/or indoor hockey competition. |
| Senior Training Member | Participation in all training sessions, but no matches. | For senior members who wish to train but do not want or are unable to participate in official matches. |
| Recreational Training Member (Trim Hockey) | Participation in all training sessions, but no matches. | The Trim Member is a variation of the Training Member category. Trim members (seniors aged 35 and older) train once a week on a weekday evening from 20:30 to 21:30. This group is open to both men and women (seniors) with little or no hockey experience who wish to stay active in a healthy and enjoyable way — focusing on fitness, basic technique, and friendly games in a relaxed and social atmosphere. |
| Substitute Member | Limited number of training sessions and a maximum of 10 matches. | For members who wish to participate in training sessions and matches but, for various reasons, are unable to be present for at least half of the season. Please note: Members who wish to qualify for a Substitute Membership must submit a request — including valid reasons — to the club’s Board for approval. |
| Student Member | Limited participation in training sessions and full participation in matches. | For students (aged 18 to 23) who, due to their studies (outside the city), are often unable to attend training sessions but still wish to take part in official matches. Please note: Members who wish to qualify for a Student Membership must submit a request — including supporting documentation — to the Board before mid-September. |
| Non-Playing Member | This member does not take part in any active hockey activities but wishes to remain part of the club — often as a volunteer or supporter. |
Obligations
- Regular hockey members aged 16 and older must be in possession of a referee card. If one does not yet have a card, one is obliged to take part in a referee course and obtain a referee card within one year. Parents of junior members are invited to transport the players in turn in the case of away matches. Every senior member is obliged to referee matches and if necessary, taking part in bar duties. Parents of junior members and youngest youth members are obliged to perform bar duties several times per season on Saturdays, under the supervision of a bar manager.
Clothing
During matches, club clothing prescribed by the Royal Dutch Hockey Association is mandatory.
Wearing shin guards and mouth protection is mandatory!

Student membership
As a student (age from 18 up to and including 22) you will be asked to provide proof of registration every season. PLEASE NOTE: Hermes does not send reminders. It is the member's own responsibility to send in this proof!
Once this proof has been received and approved by the HSC Hermes board will the student rate be charged. Furthermore, this proof must be received by the board no later than September 15. After this date, invoices will be drawn up and sent out.
Temporary membership:
If you wish to be considered for temporary membership, you must submit a request—with valid reasons—to the board. The team to which you have been or will be assigned must have at least 10 players and 1 goalkeeper with regular and full membership. Only then can the board consider your request.
Insurance
For members who have been registered by the association as members of the KNHB, supplementary sports accident insurance has been taken out.
Volunteer tasks / extra contribution to club life
It is greatly appreciated when senior members, junior members, and/or parents of junior members are willing to contribute to the club in any way, in addition to the mandatory volunteer services (such as bar duty or driving duty). You can indicate your choice on the registration form (multiple choices are also welcome, in fact, we encourage them). The options include: a board position, coach, trainer, referee, bar committee, youth committee, sponsor committee, technical committee, event organizer, and equipment committee.
Travel expenses
HSC Hermes uses a travel expenses scheme, see Article 6 HHR. Every youth member playing competition (field and/or indoor hockey) pays 40 euros in travel money in addition to the membership fee (season 2025-2026). A senior member with dispensation for a youth team is also covered by the travel expenses scheme. The travel allowance is determined every year during the General Members' Meeting.
Experience tells us that some members are more available to transport teams than other members. Because hockey is a team sport and we can only reach the top together, this travel allowance scheme has been created. Driving parents and coaches can claim costs for a ride to an away game. The travel allowance coordinator assesses the declarations and ensures payment. Mutual settlement is therefore no longer necessary and we can enjoy the sport a little extra!
The points below apply to this travel expenses scheme:
- Travel reimbursement can only be declared if the coach or the team's coordinating travel parent has designated you to drive;
- Settlement takes place on the basis of a fixed reimbursement table, which amounts to ± 19 euro cents/km (all clubs & halls are divided into 6 regions, a fixed fee applies per region);
- Only planned KNHB field and indoor matches can be declared;
- Parents/coaches who decide not to declare sponsor HSC Hermes and the club is very grateful to these parents for this;
- Members who register later in the season start playing matches will receive an adjusted amount of travel money cf. the contribution scheme;
- Travel costs for away matches can be declared by sending an email containing the name of parent, youth member, team, date, opponent and IBAN bank details to the travel money coordinator;
- Please submit declarations Submit 5 weeks after the competition;
- Declarations older than 5 weeks will not be processed;
- Driving parents can also claim parking costs (after submitting valid proof);
- Tournaments are excluded from this travel expenses scheme; and
- Senior teams arrange travel expenses among themselves.
